Methods for Creating Parameters
You can define parameters using various methods. When defining input parameters, you can also set default values.

Basic |
Lets you define parameters, their descriptions, and, for input parameters, default values. |
Business Component / Test Plan modules > Parameters tabs |
For user interface details, see Parameters Page. For task details, see How to Create Parameters. |
Component Step Definition |
Provides the ability to define parameters "on the fly" directly when defining component steps. |
Business Component module > Manual Implementation tab / Component Step Details dialog box |
For task details, see How to Create Parameters. |
Creation of Parameters while Setting Values to Other Parameters |
Enables you to define flow and test parameters "on the fly" while setting values for component or flow parameters, such as when the value for a flow parameter should match the value of a new, "as-of-yet-undefined" test parameter. Useful for multiple iterations. Tip: This method for creating parameters is convenient when you need to set different parameter values for each iteration of the test or flow in which the component (or flow) exists. |
Test Plan module > Iterations dialog boxes > Set Values page |
For user interface details, Set Values Dialog Box. |
Generation |
Allows you to generate input flow and test parameters from business component parameters. Useful for multiple iterations. |
Test Plan module > Iterations dialog box > Create Test Parameters button |
For user interface details, see Create Flow/Test Parameters Dialog Box. |
Promotion |
Enables you to widen the scope of a parameter so that more entities can use its value when a business process test runs. For example, when a business component parameter is promoted to the flow level and then to the test level, a parameter with the same name is created for the flow and the test. All other entities, whose parameters have also been promoted, access the highest-level value for the parameter. |
Test Plan module > Test Script tab > Select Components and Flows pane > button Note: Also, if automatic promotion is enabled in Customization: Business Component / Test Plan modules > Parameters tab > New Parameter dialog box > Promote automatically to test level check box

For user interface details, see Promote Parameters Dialog Box. For task details, see How to Promote Parameters. |
Learn |
BPT Packaged Apps Kit generates flow (or test) parameters automatically during the Learn process. |
