This section provides an overview of the features that were introduced or enhanced in ALM 12.55.

Control and run your tests from a single location

The Test Board tab enables you to get a full view of all the test instances available in a selected Test Lab folder, including its child folders. You can then select the test instances and run them from this tab.

Accelerate team collaboration using Microsoft Skype for Business

You can now collaborate with other ALM users by sending instant messages while working in a particular ALM module. For details, see How to Send Instant Messages from ALM.

To enable Skype for Business collaboration, set the SKYPE_INTEGRATION_ENABLED site parameter to 'Y'.

License sharing with ALM Octane

You can now allocate licenses from ALM to ALM Octane. Within ALM Octane these licenses provide you with Enterprise edition features. If you need more licenses in ALM Octane you can allocate more from ALM, and if need fewer in ALM Octane you can reduce the number of licenses allocated from ALM. For details, see Manage licenses in the ALM Octane help.

Export and import projects over 4 GB

You can now export or import ALM projects greater than 4 GB.

Note: You can import projects only within the same version.

Secure connection to the ALM mail server

When configuring the mail service to send email messages to ALM users, you can now configure the mail settings either manually or using AutoDiscover. You can also secure the connection using SSL or StartTLS. For details, see Setting the ALM Mail Protocol.

Workflow enhancements

Workflow includes the following enhancements:

AllTreesSelection object

This object can be used to get a list of the currently selected tree entities from the active views within the same module. You can retrieve selected entities by iterating through the list.

CanEnterModule event

Available in ALM 12.55 Patch 1: This event is triggered before a user enters or switches to an ALM module.

UIActions objects

Available in ALM 12.55 Patch 1: These objects can be used to perform actions in the ALM user interface. The following objects are available: UIActions.SwitchTab, UIActions.FocusEntity, and UIActions.FocusField.

Audit the history of attachments

You can now execute queries against the AUDIT_LOG table to track history data for attachments. To enable history for attachments, set the AUDIT_ATTACHMENTS site parameter to 'Y'.

Note: Not available in a version control enabled project.

Display calls to template tests in project reports

If your design steps include calls to template tests, you can now display the called tests in your project report. When creating a project report, add the Design Steps sub-section to your report.

Install and run on Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Copy project URL to clipboard

Available in ALM 12.55 Patch 1: You can now copy the URL of a project to the clipboard. You can paste the URL link into another location, such as an email or a document, or save it as a favorite view. Clicking the link opens up ALM and takes you to the project. For details, see Tools Menu.

Define associated test configurations in traceability matrix

Available in ALM 12.55 Patch 1: When configuring a traceability matrix between requirements, you can now filter by linked test configurations. For details, see the Filter By Linked Test Configurations Page.

File size enhancement

Available in ALM 12.55 Patch 1: ALM now has the ability to handle large files (above 4 GB), while exporting or importing repository files, and while uploading or downloading data.

BPT enhancements

  • Business Process Test Customization. The Business Process Test customization page now includes the following enhancements:

    Upload BPT test results to ALM as a single .zip file

    Available in ALM 12.55 Patch 1: Business Process Testing report will be compressed and uploaded into the ALM server.

    To enable you to view the compressed reports from ALM, make sure to install one of the following add-ins: UFT 12.54 Patch 4 for ALM or UFT 14.02 for ALM. Available from Marketplace.

    Exclude component parameter values from the BPT Report Viewer Available in ALM 12.55 Patch 1: If checked, the parameters from the test and the components will not be displayed in the Business Process Testing report.
    Define the level of Reporter.ReportEvent steps included in the BPT Report Viewer

    Available in ALM 12.55 Patch 2: Sets the level of the Reporter.ReportEvent steps included in the BPT report.

  • Miscellaneous ehancements. BPT now includes the following enhancements:

    Test Script tab for BPT

    In the Test Plan tree, the Test Script tab now includes the following options:

    • Available in ALM 12.55 Patch 1: Launch BPT tests and flows in UFT.

    • Available in ALM 12.55 Patch 2: Expand or collapse all nodes in the Grid or Canvas view.

    Execution Grid tab

    Available in ALM 12.55 Patch 2: The Report pane now enables you to expand or collapse all nodes in the pane.

The Mobile Center integration includes the following enhancements:

BPT Integration with Mobile Center from ALM

Available in ALM 12.55 Patch 1: BPT now integrates with Mobile Center from ALM. For details, see Enabling Mobile Center.

Multi-project support (Early Access)

Available in ALM 12.55 Patch 2: Mobile Center's multi-project feature lets you create and manage multiple, separated projects on a single Mobile Center server.

With the Mobile Center extension for ALM, you can now set this multi-project feature in ALM.

StormRunner Functional enhancements (SRF)

Available in ALM 12.55 Patch 4: You can now run automation tests (not exploratory tests) with ALM. For details on enabling the SRF integration, see StormRunner Functional Integration. Note that when working in version control enabled projects, SRF tests cannot be checked in or checked out.

When clicking context-sensitive help, ALM now links directly to the online ALM Help Center. This enables you to use the most recent version available of the ALM online help.

If your organization has firewall restrictions that prevent you from using the online Help Center, you can download and deploy the Help Center on your local server.
